Garcia Bello

GARCIA_BELLO, in 2017 opgericht door Juliana Garcia Bello, is een modemerk dat systemen van reconstructie en upcycling verkent. Julia is oorspronkelijk afkomstig uit Tierra del Fuego in Argentinië, en nu gevestigd in Arnhem. Ze bouwt voort op haar Patagonische geest en de vindingrijke methoden die haar gemeenschap en familie teopast om kleding zo lang mogelijk in gebruik te houden. 

 

De kledingstukken worden met de hand gemaakt, waarbij niet-verkochte voorraad uit de textielindustrie en kledingdonaties worden hergebruikt. Een deel van de grondstof waar GARCIA_BELLO mee werkt, krijgt ze door donaties van kleding uit de directe omgeving. Voor Garcia Bello en haar partner Santiago was het werven van donaties van buren via posters, aankondigingen en sociale media een manier om hen te leren kennen. Elke donatie, of het nu een shirt, spijkerbroek, beddengoed of tafelkleed is, heeft een verhaal van de eigenaar. Het benadrukt de ongrijpbare band die mensen met hun kleding hebben. Dit verhaal reist met het kledingstuk mee als het wordt gedeconstrueerd en geupcycled tot een nieuw kledingstuk, waarbij de betekenis en geschiedenis ervan behouden blijft als het overgaat naar de volgende eigenaar. 

 

Voor Walk-in Wardrobes tijdens State of Fashion 2022 brengt Garcia Bello deze methodes van delen, hergebruiken, repareren, vernieuwen en recyclen van bestaande materialen en producten naar jullie kasten. Ze graaft achterin de kast naar je verwaarloosde kleding en vergeten verhalen en blaast deze eenvoudige, alledaagse artikelen nieuw leven in. Ze geeft waarde aan wat al bestaat en niet in gebruik is en legt verhalen vast over thuis, gemeenschap en onderdak.

Founded in 2017 by Juliana Garcia Bello, GARCIA_BELLO is a fashion brand exploring systems of reconstruction and upcycling. The garments are handmade, reusing dead stock from the textile industry and clothing donations. Part of the raw material GARCIA_BELLO work with is obtained through donations of clothing from the nearby community. For Juliana and her partner Santiago seeking donations from neighbours through posters, notices and social media was a way of getting to know them, a social act. Each donation, whether a shirt, jeans, bed linen or tablecloth come with the story of their owner. Highlighting the intangible connection people have with their clothes. This story travels with the garment as it is deconstructed and upcycled into a new piece, keeping its meaning and history with it as it passes to the next owner.

Delving into the back of the wardrobe for your neglected clothes and forgotten stories she revives these simple, everyday items. Giving value to what already exists and is not in use and capturing stories that speak of home, community and shelter.
